Tom Naylor has moved to Pride Park on loan from Mansfield Town with a view to making the deal permanent when the transfer window re-opens in January. The 20-year-old had a trial with The Rams in September playing for the reserves and despite spending time with other clubs he returned to Field Mill before Nigel Clough acted to bring him back to the club. The two sides have reportedly agreed a deal for the central defender who has also spent time at Belper Town and Alfreton Town during his young career. Talking to dcfc.co.uk Clough said:
'Tom is a young player who we feel can develop and improve into a Championship player. He is one for the future with a lot of potential and we hope he can fulfil it in a Derby County shirt."
'Tom has been on trial at a couple of clubs in the last few weeks and been linked with various moves so I am sure he is looking forward to settling down here and proving his worth. He's got a few weeks to see how he settles and progresses here and if all goes well then we will look to go down the avenue of making the move permanent in January.'
The Rams have also offered a trial to Derry City leftback Daniel Lafferty as they look to bolster their defence. The former Celtic player had a superb season last year for his home town side and he was nominated for the PFAI Young Player of the Year award and he was named in the Airtricity League Side who played in the pre-season Dublin Cup tournament. The youngster has gained international honours for Northern Ireland at Under-21 level but has not yet been named in the full squad.
