Chris Riggott is delighted to have been given a chance to prove his fitness with the reward of a potential deal to take him back to the club he supported as a youngster the icing on the cake. After being released by Cardiff City midway through last season due to injuries Riggott underwent an operation on his troublesome back in the hope that this would allow him to return to playing at some point in the future.
Having joined up with The Rams squad for pre-season training he has been working on his fitness away from the main squad but Nigel Clough has spoken of his hope that the player can join in soon and get a couple of games under his belt as they continue to assess his fitness. Riggott has also spoken of his desire to return to full fitness and represent the club who brought him through their youth ranks telling dcfc.co.uk:
'To play for the club again would be phenomenal. I am hoping this is a new chapter for me, a new dawn. 'It feels brilliant, absolutely brilliant. It feels right. It's fantastic to be around the place and the potential of what could come of it is very exciting"
'I had surgery on my back in April. It was a case of decompressing the nerves around my lower back, which had been causing me a lot of problems with my legs and the back itself. Hopefully, that is all behind me now. The idea is to see how I get on in pre-season and play a couple of games. I don't want to tempt fate but I feel strong, I feel good and the back feels like it has improved."
