Clough Happy With Home Tie

Nigel Clough was happy with a home tie as Derby County were paired with Shrewsbury Town in the First Round of the Carling Cup in a tie to be played in the week commencing 8th August. After going out at this stage to League Two sides in both of the previous two seasons under Clough the Derby manager is desperate to do better this time around and sees the home tie as an ideal opportunity to progress. Shrewsbury are managed by Graham Turner and they finished fourth in League Two last season but missed out on promotion in the play-offs. Talking to dcfc.co.uk in relation to the tie Clough said:

'Before a Cup draw takes place all you can ask for is a home tie, and we're delighted to have one this year. We've been drawn away to League Two opposition in the last few years, so it is nice that we will have the opportunity to bring Carling Cup football back at Pride Park this season."

'Secondly, we want to have a better run in the competition than what we've had in the last two seasons. We have been bitterly disappointed to go out of the Carling Cup at the first attempt in each of the last two seasons to League Two sides, so we want to avoid a repeat this time around.'
