Barker Raring To Go
Shaun Barker can`t wait to get going again next season and hopes to finally be able to regain full fitness and show his best form in a Derby shirt. Barker has missed large parts of pre-season in the two years he has spent at Pride Park and was carrying a knee injury for most of last season meaning he could not train on a regular basis. Despite the injury Barker managed to make forty-five appearances and helped his side to gain enough points to retain their Championship status before undergoing an operation on the troublesome knee. Talking to dcfc.co.uk Nigel Clough`s new captain spoke of his injury and efforts to get fit in time for the new campaign saying:
'It was never a problem playing games or playing them in quick succession (with the injury), it was the training where it hit me the most. Painkillers got me through the games, but my training was stopped pretty much. It (the knee) was sore on a Saturday if I trained in the week, so we knew we had to deal with the situation and that meant pulling out of training."
'Fitness wise I was nowhere where I could or should have been for a player who was playing week-in-week-out, so I can't wait to get back to fitness next year now I've had the operation.'
