Doyle To Represent USA

Doyle To Represent USA

Derby County youngster Conor Doyle has decided to stick with the land of his birth by choosing to represent the USA at international level having made appearances for both them and the Republic of Ireland at under-20 and under-21 levels respectively. Texan born Doyle qualified for Ireland through his father and made one appearance for their under-21 side early in 2011 but, having weighed up his options, he has decided to stick with the USA for whom he has scored four goals in six appearances so far. Speaking to the Derby Evening Telegraph in relation to his decision Doyle said:

'I've enjoyed the experiences the US has provided me so far. I've played well with them, got a couple of goals and a couple of assists too. It hurt not qualifying for the under-20 World Cup this summer, but as a team we are now focused on the Olympics in 2012. It was a tough call in the end to make a decision which country I would have to turn down, but I took my time and viewed both set-ups, which was good for me. In the end it felt like the right decision to stick with US, but it was an honour to be called up by the Republic of Ireland and I'll always follow their progress.'
