Fielding Prepares For Under-21's

Frank Fielding is looking forward to the upcoming European Under-21 Championships in Denmark after being named in the final 23 man squad alongside keepers Jason Steele and Alex McCarthy. Fielding currently has eight caps at under-21 level and will be in contention to start in the final warm-up game against Norway at the St Mary`s Stadium on Sunday ahead of their departure for Scandinavia. Talking to the Derby Evening Telegraph about the upcoming tournament Fielding said:

'I'm looking forward to it, the boys have been together for 18 months - it's taken that long to qualify. We're all good friends and we enjoy spending time with each other when we're away. I think it's an honour to play for your country and it's an international tournament - these things don't come around very often. We have got some difficult games but the other teams will be thinking the same thing. I just hope we can get off to a winning start, which will give us a good platform for the rest of the tournament.'

Stuart Pearce`s side reached the final before succumbing to Germany in 2009 and will look to go one better this time. They start their campaign against Spain on Sunday, June 12, followed by fixtures against Ukraine, on Wednesday, June 15, and the Czech Republic, on Sunday, June 19. Fielding is concentrating on the finals before returning to Pride Park after a summer break to begin his full-time career as a member of Nigel Clough`s squad. The keeper spoke of his joy to sort his future out after signing the deal to make his switch permanent leaving him free to concentrate on the England side and continued:

'I'm glad to have got my future sorted early in the summer, so now I can focus on the European Championships, I'm not really thinking about next season yet. I always think about the next thing coming and the next thing is the European Championships. After that, I can start thinking about Derby and next season.'
