Rams In For Trio

Derby County have been making themselves busy in the transfer market but they have not, as of yet, been able to land any of their intended targets despite having reportedly discussed terms with one of them. Nigel Clough has talked of his aim to bring in his main targets early on and The Rams have had three bids turned down this week. Barnsley have rejected a reported £700,000 bid for club captain Jason Shackell as The Tykes continue their search for a new manager. Central defender Shackell only joined Barnsley at the start of last season and Clough wants to bring him in to give further options at the back for his side. However, Barnsley have rejected the offer and will not entertain any further bids until they appoint a new manager, director Don Rowing told the Sheffield Star:

"We have had an approach from Derby County to sign Jason Shackell, but at this moment in time we`ve refused it because we haven`t got a manager. We`re working very hard at the moment to appoint a new manager, so that`s our main focus at this time."

The Rams have also looked north of the border to bolster their squad with offers being made for Kilmarnock captain Craig Bryson and a deal looking likely for Aberdeen striker Chris Maguire. Bryson, previously on trial at Pride Park during Billy Davies` reign, has been earmarked as a midfield target and a bid of £300,000 plus add-ons has been lodged with the Rugby Park club. Kilmarnock reportedly want the add-ons as guaranteed payments rather then being based on The Rams` achievements over the next years and it remains to be seen if they will return with an improved offer.

Chris Maguire, a full Scotland international, has reportedly discussed personal terms and requested leave of absence from the Scotland squad to complete a medical although it appears to have been rejected. Although the striker is out of contract The Dons will be due compensation due to his age and are thought to want £400,000 for his services with the offer on the table from Derby falling short of this mark so far. The 22 year old striker scored eleven goals for Aberdeen last season and looks keen on a move to Pride Park to further his career.
