Fielding Up For Challenge
Fielding admits he has a lot to learn but believes the best way of doing this is to play on a regular basis after being down the pecking order at Ewood Park and being farmed out on loan over the past few seasons. In his two loan spells at Derby last season Fielding showed signs of being a solid choice and enough promise for manager Nigel Clough to make him one of the first permanent deals completed after the season finished signing him on a three year deal. Speaking of his switch to Pride Park Fielding told dcfc.co.uk:
'I am only 23 and still have an awful lot to learn, but I'm up for the challenge to be first choice here at Derby County. Edwin Van der Saar is 40 and at the top of his game, so I'm a young pup at 23 and I feel I have loads to improve. I want to get better, and I knew that coming here as the thing to do as I know will get better with the more games I play.
'Competition for a place in the team will be strong because, having experienced it first-hand already, we have some very good goalkeepers on the books and that will improve me as well. I am determined to improve. This is my chance to become a regular first-choice goalkeeper and I want to take it.'
