Chris Porter`s injury hit stay at Pride Park came to an end last week with the news that his contract will not be renewed and he will be on the look out for pastures new next season. Porter was Derby manager Nigel Clough`s first permanent signing in a deal from Motherwell and whilst things started brightly for him he soon succumbed to a hip injury which never really cleared up and he spent the large majority of the next eighteen months in the treatment room. In total his stint in a Derby County shirt encompassed twenty-five starts, twenty-five appearances as a substitute and a total of nine goals.
After his release from Pride Park Porter spoke to the Derby Evening Telegraph talking about his desire for a new start and the belief that he still has a lot to offer at Championship level:
'I hope for another chance in the Championship. I feel I have something to prove in the Championship. I feel I still have a lot to offer. It was going really well when I first signed. I had been in good form at Motherwell and was looking to carry that on but then I got the problem with my hip. I was told to rest for the remainder of the season, then I had to have an operation that summer.
I was unlucky with the injury and it has been frustrating for myself and Nigel Clough. Through injuries, and one bad injury that no-one could work out what it was, it has been a bit of a nightmare. But the hip is 100% now and I am looking for a fresh start, a new challenge.'
