Beattie No, Ward Yes

Derby County have made moves for two strikers in order to bolster their meagre attacking options in the emergency loan window. Reports from Wales indicate that The Rams made enquiries about taking Swansea City striker Craig Beattie on loan at the end of last week and they have also now successfully completed the capture of Jamie Ward on a three month loan from Sheffield United with the possibility of a permanent deal in the summer.

Ward, the former Chesterfield striker, has fallen out of favour with Blades` boss Micky Adams and has been allowed to leave the club after having only made fourteen starts, scoring one goal this season. Clough has been making enquiries to bring in some more strikers and is delighted to have brought in the youngster who will also add some flexibility to the squad. Speaking to the Derby Evening Telegraph he commented:

'He will give us some pace, which is something we have been after probably for the best part of two years now. He is also flexible, he can play wide or up the middle.

He is one of those players when you play against him who seems to cause you problems. He upsets defenders and he can be a nasty little so-and-so at times, which is something we need as well. He has got a little bit of an edge to him, which is good."
