Davies and Waghorn Targetted

With noises out of Pride Park suggesting The Rams are looking to strengthen during the current transfer window two names have emerged as concrete targets with steps being taken to bring them in to bolster the squad. The first of those is Ben Davies of Notts County, previously linked to The Rams during the summer, who has been the subject of a bid already from Derby although this has been dismissed out of hand by County as insufficient for one of their star performers over the last season and a half. The attacking midfielder scored fifteen and created a further seventeen goals during County`s promotion from League Two last season and was voted the fans` Player of the Season in May. Davies himself is torn on the move, wanting to play at a higher level but also enjoying his time at Meadow Lane and he told the Nottingham Evening Post:

'It's a tough one. I love it here and I'm very happy. It's the happiest I have ever been at a club. At the same time, every footballer wants to better themselves, and play at a higher level. I think while Paul Ince remains at the club there is no reason why Notts can't do that. If you get a chance to go higher in any walk of life it does turn your head. But like I said, I love it at Notts, I'm happy here.'

The other player strongly linked with a move to The Rams is Martyn Waghorn of Leicester City, a young pacey striker who would be brought in to boost Nigel Clough`s paper thin attack. Waghorn`s opportunities at the Walkers Stadium have been limited this season having made only eleven starts and nine substitute appearances scoring three goals in the process. He has fallen down the pecking order with the addition of Darius Vassell and Yakubu Ayiegbeni to The Foxes squad and would be allowed to leave on loan in order to gain more first-team experience.
