Clough Apologies To Fans

Nigel Clough has apologised to all Derby County fans following their embarrassing exit from the FA Cup to Crawley Town on Monday evening. Rumours surfaced in relation to his position with the club when neither Clough nor any members of his backroom staff appeared to speak to the press after the defeat but Tom Glick has publicly backed his manager in the interim period. Speaking to the official website in relation to the defeat Clough said:

'I acknowledge it has embarrassed our supporters and for that we are very sorry. This apology isn't just for the fantastic travelling support who made the journey but also the thousands of Derby County supporters who care passionately about this great club. Our focus now is on bouncing back against Watford on Saturday in the Championship."

Goals from Craig McAllister and Sergio Torres gave Crawley a Fourth Round trip to Torquay United and few could argue that they didn`t deserve their victory on a miserable night for The Rams. Despite a goal from Miles Addison in his first start for nearly a year The Rams didn`t seriously threaten the Crawley backline in the final half hour and fell to defeat injury time. Whilst Clough apologised for the defeat he also pointed to the progression having been made in the league with his side eight points better off than at this point last season. He continued:

'In terms of league form we have shown progression this season and last, and it is important not to lose perspective on that despite bitter disappointment. Results like Monday's and away to Nottingham Forest live long in the memory and we don't expect the supporters' hurt to disappear quickly. However, we do believe we can still give them a productive second half to the season, with the team trying to play in a manner which is exciting and enjoyable to watch.'
