Clough Willing To Wait For Commons

Nigel Clough says he is willing to wait until the summer to secure a contract extension for Kris Commons although he gave the clearest indication yet that the former Nottingham Forest player may be willing to listen to offers despite talks being on-going at the moment. Both parties have stressed they are keen to agree a deal with Commons wanting to stay at Pride Park and Clough wanting to keep him but his comments to the Derby Evening Telegraph may be a little concerning for Rams fans:

'We are still talking to Kris. We will keep the dialogue open and we are going to continue to do everything we can to persuade him to stay. Do I think he will stay? Not sure, it might go to the summer, which is fine. We want to be in there bidding as much as we can because he is a very valuable player."

Commons is Derby`s leading scorer with eleven goals so far this season and has had his best run of games in a Rams shirt since joining in the summer of 2008 although cynics may put this down to this contract being up in the summer and his need to win a new deal. Overall Commons has scored 22 goals in 74 starts for Derby and it would be tricky to replace him if he leaves on a free.
