Varney Still On His Way Out?
Luke Varney returned to the Derby side on Saturday to make a rare starting appearance, any appearance has been rare for him in the past year or so anyway.
The 27-year-old, making his first start in 15-months, may still have a Pride Park future, however, this is looking unlikely and if an offer comes in it's likely that the striker will leave.
"The way we are playing, it is Chris Porter or Rob Hulse up top. Unfortunately, both were not available to start against Cardiff and Luke came in and did a job.
His immediate future depends on what happens in the next couple of weeks, whether somebody comes in for him or not.
Like anybody, if an offer comes in we will consider it. There may be one for Luke in the next couple of weeks, so we will have to see what the next two weeks bring."
Nigel Clough was talking to the media.
Bristol City, QPR and Crewe are all understood to have enquired about Varney's availability and even though his start against Cardiff, the first since the final match of the 2008-09 season, might not prove to be his last it's unlikely that there will be many more for him with the Rams.
