Sav: Brave Derby Deserved The Win

Robbie Savage believes that Nigel Clough pulled of a motivational masterstroke by getting the Derby players off the coach early and making them walk into the ground.

The Derby team coach was stopped outside Elland Road with the Rams players made to walk through Leeds fans to get into the stadium and this show of no fear is something that Savage thinks gave us the upper hand.

"We were brave, we were honest and we deserved the win.

The gaffer stopped the coach and we walked to the ground through the Leeds fans and we showed no fear and not one Leeds fan said anything."

Leeds were heavy favourites to beat Derby, however, the Rams skipper believes that we fully deserved our 2-1 win but we've got to learn the right and wrong times to try and play expansive football as this could cost us at times.

"The lads were fantastic and to come here on opening day when we weren't given a chance, we've done all right. If we play our football, we're going to get caught at times, as we did with the goal, but we're going to play and learn from the gaffer. We're the underdogs and we love that."

Savage was talking to the BBC.
