The World Cup may still be going on in South Africa but all thoughts will soon turn back to domestic action amongst the Derby County squad as they return for pre-season training on Thursday after their summer break in preparation for the 2010/11 nPower Championship campaign. Nigel Clough told the official website that the players will be eased back into training before they convene at Loughborough University next week where the hard work will begin:
'The first few days will be fairly gentle before heading off to Loughborough next week to do some more serious work. It is a case of easing them back in over the first few days, and then for the next two weeks there will be plenty of hard work for the players."
The Rams will go through an intensive two week period aimed at building up their fitness before they enter their programme of pre-season matches starting at Burton Albion on Saturday 17th July, followed by games at Southend United on Monday 19th July, AFC Bournemouth on Wednesday 21st July and Chesterfield on Saturday 24th July. They then return to Pride Park to complete their pre-season preparations with games against Premiership sides Stoke City and Birmingham City on Tuesday 27th July and Saturday 31st July respectively.
