McEveley And Teale Leave Derby

Jay McEveley and Gary Teale aren't being offered new contracts with Derby so they'll officially leave when their contracts expire at the end of June.

Nigel Clough has praised the pair, and doesn't think they'll have a problem finding new clubs, but felt it was in the best interests of the club for them to move on.

"Both have served the club well but we felt we needed a break from the past.

They are model professionals and I am sure they will get fixed up elsewhere."

Clough was talking to the official website.

Teale hasn't really featured since the turn of the year, and the 31-year-old has had some injury problems, so the midfielder leaving doesn't really surprise me really. McEveley's departure does surprise me a little more though as the Scotland international has been a regular in the side and the 24-year-old scored against Cardiff on Sunday.

Both had said they wanted to stay and McEveley was expected to agree a new contract, however I'd think that both are on good wages and further reducing the wage bill is something Clough would be charged with doing, their contracts ending gave the ideal timing to do this. I still wish McEveley had been allowed to stay though.

Good luck to them both.

I'm sorry to see Jay leave, it must have come down to a financial decision? He'll get picked up soon enough, as will Gary as well I'm sure.
