Clough: A Good Way To Finish

We had seen an up and down season but we finished it in a good way on Sunday with a 2-0 win over Cardiff at Pride Park.

Nigel Clough was very pleased to end the way that we did and thought we played some good football.

"It was a lovely way to end the season.

Although there was nothing at stake, we played some decent football, scored a couple of good goals, got some youngsters on the pitch and finished with a win."

We've managed to gain more points this season, finished higher and seen some positive areas of improvement that were needed off the field have happened, so this is all good, however Clough admits that we should be doing better than the 14th place finish we achieved and we'll be aiming for better next season.

"It's an improvement on last season. We have a higher league position and more points, so it represents a little bit of progress.

We have also managed to get a little more off the wage bill at the club and the average age of the squad is coming down as well, so there are small grounds for optimism.

But we feel we are a better side than 14th and we will be looking to get in the top half of the table next season."

Clough was talking after the Cardiff match.
