Derby County have completed the signing of Russell Anderson on a short-term contract until the end of the season. Anderson, 31, had his contract cancelled by mutual agreement with Sunderland and Nigel Clough wasted no time in bringing in the experienced central defender on a deal until the end of May. Anderson initially signed for Sunderland for £1m in 2007 after making more than 300 appearances for Aberdeen in the Scottish Premier League and picking up 11 caps for Scotland along the way. His time on Wearside was blighted by injury and he has spent loan spells with Plymouth Argyle and Burnley.
Nigel Clough wanted to bring in some defensive cover with injuries hitting the backline hard and he told dcfc.co.uk:
He played in the Championship last season for Burnley, so he knows what it takes to compete in this division.
With Dean Leacock and Miles Addison both carrying injuries it is important to bring in some cover and boost our numbers.
In relation to the move Russell Anderson spoke of his desire to get back playing after his time out of the side at Sunderland and showing everyone what he is capable of: " I want to play and show people what I can do; hopefully I will get that opportunity here, although I know I will have to work hard to be in contention." Anderson was talking to the Derby Evening Telegraph.
