Paul Dickov's arrival might have been a surprise to many when Nigel Clough brought him in on loan from Leicester City but Clough feels he's now showing why he did.
The 37-year-old was branded tremendous for his efforts against Ipswich and Coventry with Clough feeling he has fully justified his loan arrival, ahead of other options he'd looked at.
"That's why we brought him in because we knew his character and what he could bring.
We had an option on another couple of strikers who would have cost us about three times as much but we didn't feel they would give us the sort of effort and endeavour he does.
You know if you put him on for five minutes at the end of a game or start him and play him for 80 or 85 minutes, he will give you the same sort of commitment.
He is the sort of player fans take to because they see the effort he puts in."
Clough was talking to the Evening Telegraph.
The Rams boss has previously played with the former Scottish international as they were team-mates for a short while at Manchester City so Clough had even more reason to know what he was letting himself in for when he signed him and believes that he's very much appreciated by his team-mates, even if he's not always appreciated by the fans.
Dickov's loan runs until January, so Cloughie will soon have to decide what is going to happen regarding his longer-term future at Pride Park. I'd not be against extending this until the end of the season, however I'd not expect a deal to last any longer than that?
