O'Brien Recovering After Heart Surgery

One of Derby's brightest stars, Mark O'Brien, is recovering following heart surgery.

The 16-year-old was found to have a problem with his heart, with the amount of blood being pumped through lower than was needed, that could've proven life-threatening if not operated on. O'Brien was glad this had taken place and he looks forward to resuming his footballing career in the new year.

"I'm glad it is out of the way now and everything is going according to plan.

I'm feeling fit and healthy, and I'm just looking forward to getting back playing again.

The club has been fantastic with me and I'd like to thank everyone for their wonderful support."

O'Brien was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

The Republic of Ireland U16 Player of the Year would've been in contention for a first team spot according to Nigel Clough, however the Doctors say there shouldn't be a problem with the defender resuming a normal footballing career after rest, but there must be sufficient rest before he returns.

O'Brien, who made his Rams debut on the final match of last season, will hope to be back in Clough's thoughts in three-four months time.
