Clough Decides Against Randall Loan

After looking at Mark Randall during pre-season Nigel Clough has decided against bringing the Arsenal youngster to Derby on loan.

Randall was expected to join but after making three appearances during a spell training with the Rams Clough has decided that he needs to look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements as Randall isn't what he needs.

"We have decided not to pursue anything with Mark. We have spoken to Liam Brady at Arsenal and to Mark, and although he did quite well for us while we were away, we think we need a different sort of midfielder.

We need somebody who is going to come in and really challenge the three central midfielders we have in there.

We have three very good players - Robbie Savage, Stephen Pearson and Paul Green - and arguably they have impressed as much as anybody in the last three or four weeks."

Clough was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

The 19-year-old has now returned to Arsenal.
