When Peterborough come to Pride Park on the opening day of the season Nigel Clough is expecting a full house and wants us to lay down a marker for the season ahead.
Clough wants us to start positively so we can take this into the opening weeks of the season and then build on it, but knows Peterborough will be tough opponents.
"Peterborough will be relishing the prospect of coming to Pride Park but it is a chance for us to put a marker down for the season.
I expect it will be a full house and we want to put on a good performance for the fans.
It will be a tough game, without a doubt, but it is very important for us to get off to a good start.
You don't want to lose your first game and a win can set you up for the first few weeks of the season."
The Derby boss has also paid tribute to what Peterborough have achieved in recent times going from League Two to the Championship fairly swiftly, doing this with several players that started out in non-league that Clough knows well from his own time at such a level with Burton.
"It is quite remarkable what they have achieved.
We know an awful lot of the players because, three or four years ago, Barry Fry took the best players from the Conference and they have helped them get into the Championship. It just goes to show that players can come up from non-league and compete at this level."
Clough was talking to the Evening Telegraph.
This is certainly a fixture that will be eagerly awaited and should prove to be a very good match! I can't wait for the season to get underway again, and it's getting closer.
