Lee Croft has been destined for Pride Park for a number of weeks now and Adam Pearson believes that his signing will be complete next week, with heavy competition fended off.
"We are getting really close on Lee Croft and should be able to make an announcement on that around the middle of next week.
He is someone we targeted really early and we're now virtually there on the deal.
We knew there would be competition for him, so we went in really early and put a concrete offer on the table.
Lee thinks it will be the right environment for him and we think he is the right type of player for us."
When the midfielder does complete his move to Derby Pearson feels we'll be getting one of the best Bosman free transfer signings around.
"We feel that Lee is one of the best Bosman signings you could make this summer.
Lee was very successful at Norwich last season, in a struggling team, and we expect him to be a good addition for us this year."
Pearson was talking to the Evening Telegraph.
The 24-year-old, Croft will be 24 next week so can celebrate this by clinching his Derby move, will come in to give us a more balanced look to the side on both the left and right flanks. The right hand side was one of our most problematic areas last season but the former Man City man has Premier League quality to add a lot to our side.
