Fighting for Championship survival wasn't what we expected of Derby this season, but with this now secured Robbie Savage is adamant that we'll be a force next season.
"There is no question things will be better next season.
"I am not sure how much money the gaffer has got to spend, he might have to wheel and deal a little bit but with the nucleus of the squad we have got and with the manager in place, things are looking good.
"We got over the finish line, and that was the most important thing. Now we can look forward.
"This is a Premier League club in stature, no question about that."
Savage was talking to the Evening Telegraph.
The 34-year-old has a year left on his contract and is keen to play a big part in next seasons campaign and feels that he has learned a lot from this difficult one, both as a player and as a member of the team.
After being deemed surplus to requirements under Paul Jewell the former Welsh international has bounced back to feature in 20 of the last 21 matches under Nigel Clough, who rates him, and feels this has been his best season, as he's had to respond to looking like he was on his way out.
Even if Clough doesn't pick Savage for a run of matches next season he insists that he'll keep giving 100% to earn his place back! Savage has certainly won me over, when I was all too happy for him to leave earlier in the summer, then again a lot has changed since then.
