Varney Expects To Return

Luke Varney is expecting his loan switch to Sheffield Wednesday to be nothing more than a temporary thing as he still hopes to have a long-term future with Derby.

"I've got a long-term contract at Derby and I'd love to succeed there. It's a big club and the manager has told me I have a future there. I'm just looking to get some games under my belt.

"I suppose you don't really know what could happen, but I am hoping that I can do the business at Derby."

Just because Varney expects to return to Pride Park, this doesn't mean that he isn't going to give everything for Wednesday until the end of the season.

"I am here to help Sheffield Wednesday, that is the meaning of the move. It is not just about me, I am always very passionate about who I play for."

Varney was talking to BBC Radio Sheffield.

Injury and illness have hindered the 26-year-olds progress at Derby, and some (myself included) might have viewed Nigel Clough's decision to let him go out on loan to Wednesday as a sign that the writing could be on the wall for him, but maybe not?

Going out and playing some regular first-team football should do him some good, so if he can start scoring some goals as well this will boost his confidence and he can return to the club the player that he was when Crewe had him. Varney he has looked far from that player having struggled since leaving them for Charlton and then us.
