He only joined us permanently in January, after a shot loan spell, but Luke Varney has been loaned out already with Sheffield Wednesday signing him up for an initial month.
"It was an opportunity that I couldn't turn down. He is a good player and I am delighted to have him.
"Moving to Sheffield Wednesday is not just a short-term measure. If things go well for him then there is no reason why we wouldn't look at him for the long-term as well.
"If a player comes in, does really well, fits into your setup and then kicks on, these are the things that strike deals.
"On a month's loan you get to know the player as a person and what they are like on the pitch."
Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws was talking to BBC Radio Sheffield.
The 26-year-old joined Derby on loan from Charlton ahead of the last loan window closing before former Rams boss Paul Jewell made his signing a permanent move in January for around £1m. The former Crewe hitman hasn't found the going so easy under new boss Nigel Clough, and this loan move could signal that he isn't part of his long-term thinking?
Derby travel to Hillsborough in April (11th), but Varney will not able to face us.
