Despite letting a two nil lead slip against Swansea in Tuesday's 2-2 draw at Pride Park, Nigel Clough has hailed his sides showing as the best he has seen since taking over.
"In some ways it is points thrown away because we were 2-0 up, but I don't think we could have done much more to get a victory.
"The performance was as good as anything we have had in the last seven or eight weeks I have been at the club.
"It was against a quality team and that is the encouraging thing. We have played teams in and around us but Swansea, positionally in the league, are probably one of the best teams we have faced."
Clough was speaking after the match.
Swansea are widely regarded as the best footballing side in the Division, but on Tuesday's evidence we are very much looking as though we are in for a memorable first full season under Clough when we get into the 2009-10 season.
Chris Porter's full home debut yielded two goals, so this is another encouraging sign for us and if he can strike up a good understanding with Rob Hulse this would probably be our first choice pairing next season.
