'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Cup Heroics Took Their Toll

We slumped to league another defeat on Saturday, this time at home for the first time since August, when losing 2-1 against Crystal Palace. Paul Jewell, disappointed naturally, felt that our Carling Cup heroics played a part.

'All the things we did well at Stoke, we didn't against Palace.

'I think the Stoke game took its toll.

'Palace went ahead with a great strike and we got back into it, undeservedly I guess.

'Although their second goal was offside, they were the better team - there's no doubt about that.

'We were hoping to build on a great result at Stoke in midweek but it never happened. It was very disappointing.'

With the Carling Cup Semi-Final draw pairing us with Man United Jewell also commented on this and knows we need to up our game or we'll get blown away.

'The semi is a month away but if we play like that, we`ll get battered.'

Jewell was talking to the Evening Telegraph.
