Promotion Very Much Back On Jewell's Mind

Promotion Very Much Back On Jewell's Mind

Derby made a horrible start to the season, basically we carried off where we left off last season! But Paul Jewell is taking plenty of heart from our recent run and has promotion thoughts very much back on his mind.

'That's still the aim (promotion). I wouldn't say we're 15th in the table at the moment, I'd say we're two points off the top six and four points from being in the bottom three.

'It's a very tight league and it will be like that all season. As long as our lads go out and give their best every game, that's all I can ask.

'Getting a result against Sheffield United kickstarted our season. I felt improvements were being made and we just needed a little bit of luck, the bounce of the ball.

'Hopefully we can continue with the good run we're on. We've got to continue with the hard work because we're not the finished article by any means.'

Jewell was talking to Setanta Sports News.

12 points from the last 18 points available, and an unbeaten run of six matches has seen us move from the foot of the table to a position that sees promotion very much achievable.

Jewell signed a lot of new players over the summer, with it virtually a whole new starting eleven (almost squad), so it was going to take time for everyone to gel and start to work as a team, but this is now happen and the improvement since September shows this!
