Paul Jewell has once again insisted that Robbie Savage is in his thoughts, but he has warned him (in an interview in which he got pretty rattled!) that he has to knuckle down and fight for his first team place.
'Robbie wasn't happy about not being first choice in the team.
'I was not particularly happy the way he reacted in training so like every other player, no different, if you don't want to do your best at training, are not prepared to knuckle down, you won't be considered.
'If Robbie comes back Monday morning and knuckles down, he will be considered like everybody else, no different to any other player at Derby County.'
Jewell was yet again quizzed about Savage's future, which brought about his less than impressed reaction where he snapped and then just repeated what he has already said.
'Did you hear what I said?
'He is no different to any other player. Unless someone wants to buy him or unless he doesn't want to be here, then yes.
'If Robbie Savage comes in Monday and trains to the best of his ability, he will be considered. If he doesn't, he won't. That is the same for any player at Derby County.'
Jewell's comments came from an article in the Evening Telegraph.
Savage is one of our highest earners, picking up a reported £24,000 per week so if he isn't playing I'm certain that the club would like to get him off the wage bill if they can, but generating the interest in the 33-year-old could be hard as if he is sulking because he isn't playing this is hardly going to impress would be suitors.
If Savage can get his head right, and wants it enough he could still force his way back into the Derby side and he would be an asset to the club in what is a difficult league.
