Savage playing for his Rams future

Paul Jewell has told skipper Robbie Savage he has a future at Derby, just so long as he gives his all at Pride Park. The Welsh midfielder looked to be on his way out of the club in the summer, after only joining the Rams in the January transfer window from Blackburn Rovers.

Jewell has overhauled his squad in pre-season, bringing in 11 new players, following a season to forget in the Premier League. Reports in the press said Savage was to be sold in the shake up, but Jewell insists the 33-year-old will be treated like all other players in the squad.

"Robbie will be treated exactly the same as everybody else," Jewell told the Daily Mail.

"If they're not in the team and they're not happy they can go as long as that's right for us.

"I've said that if he gives his all, he'll get in the team. If he doesn't then he won't."

Jewell has been given the backing of the board during the summer and he accepts the pressure is on to deliver.

"Last season I said the same thing time and time again after we lost.

"If I keep repeating myself again and again this season I will be playing a lot of golf in October," added Jewell.

Again thanks to Simmo for this article. Savage has a lot of competition, but he has always seemed a player that isn't afraid to get stuck in in order to win his place so if he wants it enough he could get it. If not then he will go. He has qualities that we need though this season I feel.

Totally agree Rammie, he defiantly has the qualities, and he may have been the club captain last season, put as they say it’s a new playing field now!!!!!
