Derby Claim Win At Burton

We claimed our first win of pre-season against Burton Albion on Wednesday, with two first half goals deciding the match, which ended 2-0 in our favour.

New signings Paul Connolly, Martin Albrechtsen, Jordan Stewart, Paul Green, Stephen Davies and Nathan Ellington all started the match but Kris Commons again missed out, tight hamstrings, and Ruben Zadkovich is away with Australia for the Olympic Games. Injuries also ruled out Alan Stubbs, Claude Davis, Stephen Pearson (although a move to Birmingham looks close to happening anyway) and Roy Carroll. John Oster, on trail after his release by Reading, played the final thirty minutes and Paul Jewell has said he will start at Rotherham on Saturday.

Davies, a talented youngster signed from Tranmere this summer, opened the scoring and Ellington, signed from Watford on a season loan with a permanent signing arranged for next summer, grabbed the second as we put the disappointment of the defeat to TOP Oss on Friday behind us. As with that match, like this one, the result isn't the most important thing, as pre-season is about more than results but Jewell will be pleased to gain a win nevertheless and will again take positives from this.
