Jewell Optimistic Despite Derby's Dutch Defeat

As much as Paul Jewell wanted Derby to win their opening pre-season fixture, which we lost 2-0 to TOP Oss on Friday, the defeat isn't concerning him that much. He remains optimistic about the season ahead, and is taking the positives from the match, as I felt he would.

'Of course we wanted to win the game but the performance was the most aspect and there were plenty of positives.

'All in all it has been a very positive trip and we will now look to kick on back in England.'

Jewell was talking to the official website.

The whole experience, the training camp and time most of what will be this seasons squad spent together in Holland should benefit us and the defeat will mean little come the end of the season, providing everything goes well of course, which we hope it does.

The bigger picture must be seen here, as these fixtures are not about results that much really are they, they are about preparing for the season ahead, even if victories are nice.

So a new season dawns and you are back among the also rans, what kind of a season do you foresee?

I'm looking forward to it, Jewell is putting together the wants he wants. We went up too soon last time, so if we can get back up again I think we will be better prepared this time. I'd like to think we can make the top six!
